Description

ABS (Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene Copolymer) is an amorphous thermopolymer obtained by the polymerization of Styrene and Acrylonitrile with the addition of Butadiene. Depending on the percentages of the 3 components can result in different characteristics per product. Acrylonitrile, for example, provides hardness, stiffness, and chemical and heat resistance, while styrene makes ABS workable, shiny, and durable. Lastly, butadiene provides resilience and strength.
It is characterized by low density, good chemical resistance (It has good chemical resistance to hydrochloric acid, alkalis and lubricating oils, poor resistance to sulfuric and nitric acid and aromatic hydrocarbons) and excellent dimensional stability, is not subject to humidity absorption, and coextrusion with flexible materials is possible. It also has a very low thermal conductivity coefficient allowing a significant increase in thermal insulation.
